Hiring for investment-backed growth

What investors should assess when building renewable energy leadership teams.

Investment-backed renewable energy businesses often need leaders who can deliver growth while maintaining governance, financial discipline and operational execution.

Start with the investment thesis

Every hire should trace back to the value-creation plan. Is the priority pipeline growth, operational excellence, a buy-and-build programme or exit readiness? Each calls for a different leadership profile and a different balance between the CEO and CFO.

Test for scale-up experience

Leading a business through rapid growth is a distinct skill. Look for evidence of building teams, processes and reporting from a low base, and of taking difficult decisions while the business is still being built.

The right leader for a platform at 200 MW is not always the right leader at 2 GW.

Governance from day one

Investors need clear, reliable reporting and a leadership team that welcomes scrutiny. The best candidates see strong governance as an enabler of growth, not a constraint on it.
